Google has just announced that they will no longer allow any sexually explicate or graphic nudity (pictures or videos) on their Blogger platform. The announcement confirms that they will be eliminating all adult blogs from the site as of March 23, 2015. This gives bloggers sufficient time to review their site and take down any inappropriate content, which if it is still left up, will be removed from the system.
This is another step toward distancing the company from pornography. Back in 2013, Google removed all sexually explicate or pornographic apps from their Google Play store, which they followed through with in March of 2014 by removing hundreds of apps. Then, in June of 2014, they updated their AdWords policies to ban any ads that have any graphic depictions of sexual acts, or link to sites with these types of images or videos.
I have been unable to find any official reasons for this move from Google, but it is not uncommon for companies to want to distance themselves from this type of thing. Especially given the fact that recent studies have indicated that frequent porn use may be linked to shrinking in certain areas of the brain.
Whatever the reason, any marketers who have been using Blogger to promote their business may want to take some time to go through and make sure the content of their site is not adult in nature, or it may get removed from the site.
