This might come as something as a surprise to many marketers, but Google has recently patented a new auto-posting bot. The program is designed to automatically post to social media accounts and blogs, as well as reply to comments and perform other types of writing automatically. The technology behind the bot will analyze existing content written by an individual, including posts, texts, emails and other items, and then mimic that writing style.
If it works properly, it would be difficult to tell the difference between a real post made, and one written by Google’s bot. While this could be extremely helpful for Google and anyone else who gets their hands on it, it is somewhat ironic. Google has, after all, spent a significant amount of time and energy fighting against marketers who used autoposters in the past.
Several years ago, it was all the rage to create a new blog and use automated programs to find content and automatically post it on the site to help drive traffic. There were many different types of these bots out there, but most of them would take content, spin it to make it unique, and then post it on the page. Of course, this is slightly different than what the Google patent is for, but it is similar enough to raise some eyebrows.
It is not clear yet whether this program will just be something used internal to Google, or if it will be a service they offer to the public as well. If the bot is made, and works well, however, it will be difficult to keep it out of the hands of website owners. This could give site owners a powerful tool for automating content on their websites, without having it sound awkward and almost unreadable, which was a common problem with most other content spinning software.
