Apple has just announced that they will be shutting down their iAd App Network effective at the end of June, 2016. The system has already stopped letting new apps join this network. Existing members can keep promoting their own apps through the network. Any revenue that is generated from serving ads within their own apps will continue through June 30th.
The announcement was made in a very brief post on Apple’s developer blog. The announcement said, “The iAd App Network will be discontinued as of June 30th 2016. Although we are no longer accepting new apps into the network, advertising campaigns may continue to run and you can still earn advertising revenue until June 30. If you’d like to continue promoting your apps through iAd until then, you can create a campaign using iAd Workbench. We will continue to keep you updated, but if you have any questions, contact us.”
Short and sweet I suppose.
The iAd system has never been a big service from Apple and they haven’t managed to build it up into a real competitor with other application focused ad networks, which is likely why Apple choose to end this product.
