A couple weeks ago Twitter removed the ‘share count’ feature on their platform. Since people can no longer see how many people have shared a particular tweet, it seems that less people are sharing overall. According to a report released by Sharaholic, the overall sharing is down by 11.28%.
This report is not really perfect, however. It doesn’t look at the total shares on the platform but instead looks at what percentage of shares are taking place on Twitter compared to Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn and other social networks. Sharaholic has their share buttons installed on more than 300,000 sites, which is how they are gathering this data.
In the months prior to the change on the platform, Twitter had 12.39% of the total shares with their plugin. In the past couple of weeks, that has gone down to just 11%, which is a drop of 11.28%.
Many people have been critical of Twitter’s decision to remove the share counts feature. This report will, of course, give them even more reason to be upset about the change. There hasn’t yet been a response from Twitter regarding this report or any of the complaints about their change.
