Record Cyber Monday Sales – Topping $3 Billion

The numbers for Black Friday and Cyber Monday are beginning to roll in and most brands aren’t disappointed.  While some Black Friday numbers aren’t quite as high as people would have liked, Cyber Monday seems to have met or exceeded people’s expectations.  As many people predicted, the Cyber Monday sales broke all previous e-commerce records.

According to Adobe there was $3.07 billion on Cyber Monday.  This is up 16% from last year and makes it the largest single day of online sales in history.

Of these sales about 26% originated from mobile devices.  To break it down further, $575 million of the mobile sales came from Apple devices and just $219 million from Android.  This is another piece of proof that shows that while Android may have more total users, Apple is still the device to target for marketers.

In addition to looking just at total sales, the Adobe report also looked at what people were buying and how.  One interesting statistic is the level of discounts that brands were offering.  According to the report, the average discount was 21.5%, which is quite significant.

One final piece of information from this Adobe report is regarding the advertising that was used to drive sales.  Adobe found that display ads were used to drive 57% more sales this year than Cyber Monday last year.  This is obviously a huge jump and a clear indication that display ads are still an extremely effective way to get the traffic your business needs.

Another report, this one from HookLogic, found that the average order was for $134, which is just $3 lower than the average order they reported for Black Friday.
