Holiday Sales Predicted to Break Record & Hit $83 Billion

Adobe has just released information about their predictions for the 2015 holiday season, and it is certainly looking good.  Their Digital Index 2015 Holiday Shopping Predictions report looks at key shopping days as well as the season as a whole.  Marketers will be encouraged to see that they are expecting this year’s overall holiday season to break the all-time high (which was set last year) to hit $83 Billion. This would mark an 11% jump year over.

Some key points on the report include a huge 18% boost expected for Thanksgiving day shopping.  They are expecting there to be $1.6 billion spent digitally on Thanksgiving day.  This is huge, even when compared the Black Friday shopping day, which is predicted to hit $2.7 Billion.

Another interesting note from this portion of the report is that for the first time ever, Thanksgiving digital shopping will happen mostly via mobile devices.  51% of online shopping on Thanksgiving is expected to be from mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets.  This is total shopping traffic.  The actual sales will come in at 29%, which is a 12% increase from last year.

The report also touches on how marketers can best capitalize on their advertising investments.  They say that display ads will perform 3 times better than search ads, with social ads coming in second place at twice as effective as search.

The Adobe report has historically been very accurate since their cloud is used for a massive amount of traffic and purchases for some of the world’s biggest retailers. If you’d like to read the full 63 page report, it is available HERE.
