Can Crowd Sourcing Solve Advertising Fraud?

If you are interested in learning more about a new form of fraud which takes advantage of crowd sourcing, there is a recently published white paper that goes into great detail on this technology.  The paper is published on the website of the 24th international world wide web conference.  The conference itself took place in Florence Italy from May 18th – 22nd of this year.  It is not exactly clear from their page what this paper was used for in the conference, but it is very interesting none the less.

While certainly not for everyone, the paper is a very technical and in depth overview of how crowd sourcing is being used in ad fraud, and how it will be far more difficult to detect.  The paper does go into how ad agencies, site owners and others can approach this problem to minimize the losses that could be present.

As you go through the paper it touches on how crowd sourcing fraud like this does not have the same ‘flags’ that are typically used to detect automated fraud activities.  It also goes through the characteristics of this type of fraud, and what really helps to set it apart.

This specific type of fraud is much more complicated than using simple malware or other things, but due to the fact that many companies are stepping up their fraud detection and prevention standards, the ‘bad players’ may be forced to use this method much more going forward.

For those looking to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to digital ad fraud, this white paper is a must read.  You can find it HERE.
