Buy Buttons Coming from Google

Google has just confirmed that they will soon be allowing “buy now” in their advertisements.  To put it simply, marketers will be able to include an option to quickly and easily buy their products without ever having to leave the Google search results page.  There is no specific date when this new feature will roll out, but many people expect it to be within the next few weeks or months at the longest.

The confirmation came from Google’s Chief business officer, Omid Kordestani during an interview at the Re/Code’s Code Conference.  Other than confirming that it was coming, he did not provide many additional details.  In a report published by the Wall Street Journal, however, it was stated that the service will allow users to click the buy button in the search results, and then the users will be directed to a new landing page from Google where they will be allowed to finish the transaction.

There are still many questions that people will need to have answered before deciding whether or not to use this service.  For example, will Google get an additional cut of the sales that are made?  How much control will marketers have over the look and feel of Google’s transaction page?  Is there just going to be one generic buy button or can it be customized?  Will marketers be able to get buyers on their email marketing list from these pages?

Google hasn’t provided much information yet, but they likely will in the near future.  For now, however, it is a good idea to at least start thinking about how this new option might be used to benefit your business and begin to drive additional sales.
