Google made a lot of waves in the marketing world with their new ‘mobile friendly’ update. This update made it so sites that were mobile friendly would rank better in the search results. This move makes sense from a search engine point of view since a growing percentage of people are searching exclusively from their mobile devices. Fortunately, most active sites didn’t have too much trouble getting their site up to date using mobile friendly themes or responsive options that can detect the browser type and load the proper format of the site.
Microsoft’s search engine, Bing, has just announced that they will also be rolling out a mobile friendly search algorithm in the near future. While it is unlikely that they were actually just copying Google since they have likely been working on the update for some time, it is another big change in favor of mobile friendly sites.
Any marketers who are still using an outdated website that does not function well with mobile browsers will soon be left behind when it comes to getting search traffic. Bing has not announced a set date where they would be rolling this update out, but it seems likely that it will be sooner than later.
If you are still lagging behind with mobile, this seems to be your last chance before you lose virtually all search traffic so make sure you act now.
