Facebook is finally moving forward with the long awaited update on their graph search feature. The update, which will allow users to search for content that was previously on their Newsfeed has been requested for a long time, and was even announced over a year ago. While they have taken their time to develop it, all indications seem to say that it is a very useful search feature.
Tom Stocky, who is the Vice President of Search with Facebook, said, “When we talk to people who use Facebook, the things they actually ask for, which seems like such a small thing to a lot of us who have been thinking about search for a long time, is I saw something in my News Feed last week, yesterday, this morning, a year ago. I just want to be able to get back to it. So that’s the thing we’ve made work really well.”
This is certainly going to be a nice update for anyone who wants to be able to find conversations and posts that they have seen in the past. This feature won’t, however, display posts from those who the user doesn’t have a connection with. Specifically would include things like ads and sponsored posts. Even posts that were liked or shared by friends that you don’t follow won’t show up. This will be disappointing for marketers.
The rollout is set to begin immediately, and will start with both the PC and iOS version of Facebook. This first rollout is also only for the English versions of Facebook.
