New Report finds Smartphone Ad Spend Beats Tablets for First Time

In a new report recently released by Covario for the third quarter of 2014, it was found that for the first time since it has been measured, smartphone ad spend beat out tablets.  This is the continuation of a general trend of people using their smartphones more and more for all types of things, including making purchases, watching videos and more.  This, of course, is largely related to the fact that the smartphone screens are getting larger, so people don’t need to switch to their tablet or PC as often.

In the report it found that the media spend breakdown was 67% for PCs, 18% for smartphones and 15% for tablets.

The overall paid search amount has also gone up significantly year over year.  The report found that it went up by about 28%, which is quite impressive.  Quarter-over-quarter, the total spend went up by 16%.  Interestingly, the CPC was down by 8% over the same time period, indicating that there are more ads overall, and each click is being discounted.  This is not surprising given the rapid growth of ads on platforms like Facebook and others.

There have been many other stats released about the state of paid search advertising.  Overall, the news is quite positive with virtually every category going up in the overall ad spend.  The number of clicks that users are making has also been going up, and even the number of purchases people are making from their smartphones.

Anyone who is doing any type of ecommerce or other sales will want to take some time to look the report over and see how it may impact your overall advertising and marketing strategy.
