Google Cleaning up Analytics

In a recent Google+ post by Matthew Anderson, it was announced that Google Analytics is getting an update that will help to provide marketers with more accurate and cleaner data.  As any marketer knows, even with all the data that Google Analytics provides, it can sometimes be hard to really get a good understanding of how many actual visitors the site has had.

This is due to a number of factors, including the spiders and bots that are constantly crawling around the site.

In the post, Anderson said, “Many of you have shared with us that it’s hard to identify the real traffic that comes to your pages.  That’s why I’m pleased to announce that we’re adding bot and spider filtering.”

This new filtering should help customers to really get a more accurate picture of how many people are visiting their site on a daily basis.

So far only a few exclusive companies have gotten access to the new stats, including Nestle.

Nestle’s Google Analytics Specialist, Katarzyna Malik, said of the update, “The bot filter solution is essential for getting deeper insights.  View level availability let us stay fully aligned with Best Practices to all site owners.  Very easy to use, understand and communicate across thousands of Google Analytics users.”

While this isn’t a major renovation to the service, it will undoubtedly make the lives of marketers just a little bit easier.
