Businesses big and small are well aware of how effective Pinterest can be for engaging customers and helping to promote their brand, but with the most recent updates it is getting even better. Pinterest users build pin boards of their favorite pictures, products or just about anything else you can think of. These boards are then shared with their friends, family and anyone else who happens to find it online.
Since this is mostly user-generated content people are much more likely to trust the recommendation of the person doing the posting. Businesses are able to take advantage of this by creating their own pin boards which they can share with anyone following their brand. When done properly this is a very effective way to get a lot of attention for an entire brand or a specific product very quickly and easily. Studies have shown that people viewing pin boards online often then buy the products related to the board which makes this an even more effective tool for marketers.
The updates put in by Pinterest affect several different areas of the site making it both more enjoyable for users and a more effective tool for marketers. One of the most significant changes involves the Pinterest mobile app. There is added functionality which allows you to share the pins of other individuals or brands more easily and with more people. There are also mobile notifications available so people can be immediately updated when a brand pins something new.
The search function on the mobile app is also improved using the auto-suggest feature to give the user ideas as they are typing in their search. Searches done on a PC will also be available on the mobile app when logged in so it is much easier to find recently searched for items while on a mobile device. Finally, it is now possible to notify specific friends by using the ‘@’ symbol while posting.
There were also some improvements and adjustments on the full Pinterest website but those were not nearly as significant, especially when it comes to businesses and marketing. Pinterest seems to be doing a great job balancing the usability of their site with the desires of marketers and advertisers.
Do you use Pinterest for marketing? Will these new features be useful to you?
