Study: Ads Help Keep Installed Apps Active

Many marketers today are working with app developers or other companies to try to get users to install their mobile apps.  Whether it is a game, utility or other item ads are one of the best ways to get the ad discovered and installed on people’s phones, tablets and other mobile devices.  Once the app is installed, however, many marketers forget all about keeping the users active.

According to a recent study by Yahoo, ads can also be used to help get people to keep using an app once it is installed, which is very important for long term use and to help keep it from being deleted.

The study found that 60% of apps are deleted when users go through and delete multiple apps that they don’t want anymore.  These clean outs are the most significant ‘risk’ to an app on a device.  36% of people delete an app when they have found a new one that replaces it and another 36% delete them to free memory for software updates.

The point is, however, that people don’t typically delete the apps that they use on a regular basis.  With this in mind, it is important to make sure you get people to open your app and use it as often as possible.  Just like advertisements can encourage people to download an app, they can also be very effective at reminding people to use the app again after it has been downloaded.

By reminding them that they were once interested in the app enough to download (or even buy) it, the ads can trigger renewed interest.  This can be especially true when there was a recent change or update to the app.

If you’re not running ‘app open’ ads for your mobile apps, you are likely losing a lot of users just by neglecting to ask them to keep using the app once it has been downloaded.
