IAB Releases Ad Revenue Numbers from First Half of 2015

The IAB has just published their most recently report, which highlights the numbers related to internet advertising revenues for the first half of 2015.  The report shows that total ad revenue is up by 19% during this time period.  One of the most important stats, however, is that Q2 revenue beat Q4 2014 revenue, which is the first time that has ever happened.

This is a key sign that the digital ad industry is growing at a very rapid pace.  To have second quarter revenue beat that which took place during the big holiday season of the previous year is very impressive.

What is not a surprise is that much of the growth came from mobile advertising.  This sector alone grew by over 50% bring it to a total of 30% of the online ad revenue generated during the first two quarters of the year.  This is a major jump and is credited largely to the fact that people are spending additional time browsing on their mobile devices rather than just looking things up quickly.

Social media ad revenue is also up significantly during the time period.  This is due, at least in part, to the effort that social networks have been adding in new ad options at a very fast pace during the first half of this year. With additional opportunities to buy ads, it makes sense that such growth would take place.

With this great growth coming during the first half of the year, many people are excited about what the upcoming holiday season will look like.  Of course, some marketers may be concerned that the total ad costs will continue to rise as competition for each ad slot goes up.  For now, however, the price and return on investment continue to make this a very attractive marketing option.
