In a new report from eMarketers, it is estimated that there will be about $58.6 Billion spent on digital advertising this year. The report titled, “Digital Ad Spending Benchmarks by Industry” lumped mobile, programmatic display and video ads together to come up with this number. Whether you’re a marketer who is looking to use digital ads to drive sales or you’re a website owner looking to get your piece of this nearly $60 billion pie, this report is quite interesting.
Who is Spending?
The report breaks this huge number down based on industry. This will help you to see exactly where all the money is coming from, which can be helpful in deciding where to invest your time and money. Here is the breakdown:
- Retail – 22%
- Automotive – 12.5%
- Financial Services – 12.3%
- Telecom – 11.1%
- CPG & Consumer Products – 8.5%
- Travel – 8.3%
- Computing Products & Consumer Electronics – 7.6%
- Media – 5.8%
- Entertainment – 4.8%
- Health & Pharma – 2.8%
- Other – 4.5%
This breakdown is interesting, and even surprising in some ways. Personally I would have expected entertainment to be higher given the popularity of movie and television show ads these days. Healthcare and big pharmaceutical companies in my mind would have spent more too.
Regardless, however, it does show you just where the money that is funding the digital ad revolution is coming from. No matter which of these segments you are operating in, make sure you are using digital ads properly to get the most from your investment.
