Holiday eCommerce Expected to Grow by 16.6%

It is getting to be that time of year again where performance marketers need to really start thinking about how they will push their holiday sales.  Last year ecommerce grew by 15.3%, bringing in $62.11 billion dollars in the United States.  This year it is predicted by eMarketer that ecommerce sites will pull in $72.41 Billion, which is a growth of 16.6%.

Retail holiday spending is also expected to go up, though at a more modest 5% year over year.  While retail remains dominant, with $862.53 billion predicted in the 2014 holiday season, the gap is shrinking quite rapidly.

With this much money being spent online in just a couple of months, it is obviously an extremely important time of year for all marketers.  Setting things up today to try to bring in your piece of this massive pie can be a great way to help bring in major profits.

Of course, some types of ecommerce sites will do better than others.  If you are selling and shipping physical products, for example, this season could be essential to your success.  Even digital products, however, can be very popular during the holidays.  More and more people are asking for (and receiving) eBooks, software and other virtual products for the holidays.   As marketers, it is critical to find creative ways to capitalize on this growing market.
