Mobile Social Sharing Jumps 30% in Q2 2014

While everyone already knows that mobile is incredibly important for social media sites and marketers alike, a new report has found that its importance is continuing to grow at a rapid pace.  The report, which was published by ShareThis, found that people are sharing content on their mobile devices more than 30% more in in Q2 2014 than they did in Q1.

This is a remarkable amount of growth to see in such a short period of time, especially since mobile was already a huge player going into the first quarter of 2014.  ShareThis got their data from their network of over 2 million US publishers.

Most of the growth came from smart phone, which went up 27.8%, and the rest from tablets, contributing 3.5% in growth.  During the same time frame, desktop sharing went down by 5.5%.

The report also touched on where people are sharing content from their mobile devices.  It is no surprise that Facebook is dominant, with 64% of all social shares.  Tied for second place, however, is Twitter and Pinterest with 9% each.  This is a nice growth for Pinterest, and may be a cause for concern for Twitter, which appears to be losing their second place stronghold.

It is important to note that Facebook, while still dominant, has actually dropped in its total percentage of social shares on mobile by 3.9% compared to the first quarter.  Much of this drop went to Pinterest, which went up 1.3%, and Twitter, which gained .8%.
